So near… yet so far.
That was the story of Draycott Potter and the club’s efforts in the Sub Cup this year.
In reaching the Sub Cup (Group 8) final round, the team did even better than expected – and an emphatic 4-1 win against Cheadle Town on Tuesday evening (1st May) at the club’s Cresswell ground set up an exciting decider against Uttoxeter Town A. Whoever won this tie would be through to the final.
However, at the last hurdle, things went awry.
On Sunday (May 6th) the short trip to Uttoxeter saw a brave but fruitless effort, with DP going down 5-2. Uttoxeter A march on to the final instead.
But – all in all – it’s been a fabulous season.
After promotion last year, the team’s first season in Division One of the Uttoxeter & District Sunday Football League saw them consistently play free-scoring football, ending fourth in the table; and – as we have just learned – it was so close in the Sub Cup.
Who would have thought on that day just twelve months ago that Draycott Potter would have done so well in their first season in the top flight?
Well done lads!
