If you’re a fan of live music living in Draycott, July is going to be a lot of fun!
The big event is of course the now-annual Jacque Rabbit Night on Saturday July 12th. This event is the curtain-raiser to the Draycott Summer Fayre (which is on the next day – July 13th) – and it’s always a stormin’ affair!
Jacque Rabbit play unashamed high-energy classic rock, throwing a healthy number of covers (‘Black Magic Woman’, ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ and more) into the mix.
You’ll all know Richard Ward, the bass player, who lives in the village himself, and who, like all the other members of the band, is a highly accomplished musician of some years’ experience.
If you think you like the sound of that, check out their music on YouTube – and especially look out for their rendition of ‘Sweet Home Chicago’, which was filmed at Draycott last year!
But the night is not just the band… the event kicks off with a barbecue, starting at 7.30pm, quickly becoming a disco, expertly managed by Richard ‘Axis’ Ward himself. Expect a lot of old favourites, and lots of dancing; and a bar is laid on in case you get thirsty.
The band itself will come on around 9pm.
It’s usually very special night, all the more special for taking place in a huge marquee under the stars in Ford’s Field (which is on the main Uttoxeter Road through the village, so you can’t miss it).
To get in, it’s £5 on the door, but you can get tickets for £4 if you buy them in advance (phone 01782 397 055).
And don’t forget: all the profits go to a worthwhile cause – the repair and maintenance of St Margaret’s, Draycott’s historic parish church.
In the summertime…
Meanwhile, there are a number of other events in July no local live-music fan should miss:

… and, later, coming up at the end of August in Cresswell, there is the famous annual CloggerFest– but we’ll write about that nearer the time…
