Like we said in a previous post, July is a great month for music in Draycott – and, what’s more, amateur musicians and singers can now get in on the act too…
On our What’s On page, you can see all the acts that are coming here, day by day – and don’t forget that the famous jazz-busker Eric Newton is at the Draycott Summer Fayre this Sunday (July 13th) too.
At the Izaak Walton, Kathy has decided that, this month, we will all get to enjoy lots of summer sounds, and there will be live-music and a bbq (depending on the weather) every Friday night for the next few weeks. Following on from the Dirk Digglers Blues band last week, singer-songwriter Adrian Starkey will be entertaining tonight (July 11th) – with more to come each week.
Izaak’s sound of music
But amateur singers and musicians will definitely also be attracted to Thursday nights at the Izaak, when it’s an acoustic open-mic sort of night.
Many of us know The Phoenix duo, two young ladies from Stone, who used to host and run acoustic nights in Rough Close. Well, they are bringing that experience to Draycott!
Jackie and Linda, who make up Phoenix, will open the night around 8.30pm, and do a twenty-minute set – they can play anything from the Beatles to Pink, and have their own original songs too.
And then it’s your turn. If you have a singing voice, or an instrument you love to play, (or both!), you’ll be asked to join in the fun.
And the night is all for free…
Linda told us that, sometimes, they might even be able to accompany a singer who has the music ready: “…it’s not always possible (without rehearsal) if they’ve never sang with live musicians before, but we can try! Also they would need to have the music in the right key for them to sing it. If they talk to us good and early, we’ll see what’s possible.”
So this is how the calendar looks for July:
Friday 11 July sees Adrian Starkey (singer, guitarist, song writer) at the Izaak Walton Inn from 6.30pm, music around 7.30.
